Robert Glasper was in Atlanta this past weekend for the Atlanta Jazz Festival and exposed all of Piedmont Park to his wonderful new album, Black Radio. Although the performance did not include any of the artist that are featured on the album (Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michele, Musiq Soulchild, Lalah Hathaway) it was still an awesome show!  Check out the photos and a small piece of his performance last night below.

Rapper Hires New Business Team

Cash Money Records rapper Bow Wow is working to resolve the financial issues that have been dogging him for the better part of two years. This week, a Georgia court ruled that Bow Wow must pay the money he owes a limo company that previously filed suit against him. Due to his failing to appear in court, he has been ordered to pay $3,594.87 in a default judgement.

According to TMZ, Bow Wow has hired a new business team to address his financial troubles.

Bow Wow has paid off $90,000 to settle an unpaid tour bus bill, and has moved forward with resolving the three tax liens already filed against him for the years 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Reports are in and according to the latest sales data, Sony Music is set to pass Universal Music Group for the largest piece of U.S. album sales.

When it comes to the total U.S. music sales market, Sony leads with 30.6 percent, followed by UMG with 29.8%, then Warner Music Group with 18.1%. EMI, which is expected to merge with UMG if the deal is approved, had 9%.

A spokesperson for Sony told the Post, “We are thrilled with the success we are seeing so far this year.” However, a source at UMG noted to the paper, “So much depends on the release schedule. There’s a lot of back and forth. It’s the year-end that counts.”

Malkan Corpus Christi OM/PD Rudy Ramos Dies at 38.
Malkan Broadcast Associates Corpus Christi Operations Manager and “92.7 KBay” KKBA-FM afternoon host Rudy Ramos died suddenly Saturday after a massive heart attack. He was only 38. Ramos was a popular radio personality in the Corpus Christi market, as well as other markets where he’d worked during his radio career. He joined Rhythmic Oldies “92.7 KBay” KKBA-FM, Corpus Christi, as Program Director and afternoon host in late 2010, later adding Operations Manager duties for the entire cluster which also includes Rhythmic CHR “Hot Z95″ KZFM-FM and Sports Talk “ESPN 1440″ KEYS-AM. Prior to Malkan Corpus Christi, Ramos was SVP of Programing at Spanish Tropical “La Fiesta 98.5″ WBON-FM, Nassau-Suffolk, NY. Previously, he’d been at Border Media Austin. Survived by his daughter, funeral arrangements are pending following a Tuesday autopsy. Storm Affects Clear Channel Eau Claire Stations.
The tower of Clear Channel Sports WBIZ-AM, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was brought down by a wind-powered storm Thursday evening, knocking the station off the air. Trees and power lines were also downed by the fierce storm taking
Clear Channel’s other six stations in the market off the air also. Country “B-95″ WQRB-FM and CHR-Top40 “Z100″ WBIZ-FM returned to the air by late Thursday night. The other stations – AC “Mix 98.1″ WISM (MIX 98.1), Classic Country WATQ-FM, Talk WMEQ-A, and Classic Rock WMEQ-FM – returned to the air early Friday.

Two Houston Cumulus Spin-Offs Are Sold.
Two former Cumulus stations in Houston, which have been in the AR Licensing spinoff trust headed by broker Larry Patrick, are reported to have buyers. The big news is that Gow Communications has signed a letter of intent to purchase Sports “ESPN 97.5 The Ticket” KFNC-FM. No price is given. Gow currently operates Houston’s KGOW-AM and the Yahoo Sports Radio network which is based at KGOW-AM. Reportedly, Gow will keep the ESPN Radio affiliation for KFNC-FM. Also reported sold by AR Licensing is Houston Triple-A KHJK-FM. The buyer for that station is said to be Educational Media Foundation, the not-for-profit operator of the Christian networks K-Love and Air1.

West Palm Beach WIRK-FM Moving from 107.9 to 103.1
Following the sale of CBS Radio’s Country WIRK-FM, West Palm Beach, to Palm Beach Broadcasting, the station will move from 107.9 to 103.1 – to “a bigger signal,” as the station tells its listeners. The move, set for June 1, will
extend WIRK-FM’s reach to “about 60 miles south of Orlando.” In an announcement on their website, they note: “Yes, you’ll be able to hear us in Lauderdale, Sunrise, Vero…you get the idea. It’s a bigger signal!” No changes in programming, air staff or events will accompany the frequency change, emphasizes WIRK-FM. “We are STILL South Florida Country WIRK…just 103.1 instead of 107.9″ says the website announcement.

DC’s WPGC-FM Celebrates 25 Years On Air.
CBS Radio Rhythmic CHR WPGC-FM, Washington DC, is celebrating 25 years on the air through the Memorial Day weekend. Through the holiday weekend, WPGC-FM will showcase some of the biggest songs at the station from past summers through its 25 years. Although officially considered a Rhythmic CHR station at this point in its history, many say it is actually more of an Urban station. That apparently remains a subject for debate. WPGC-FM replaced AC WCLY-FM with a Memorial Day weekend flip in 1987. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Four Federated Media Stations in Northern Indiana to Go Sports Talk.
Four Federated Media stations in Northern Indiana will become Sports Talk outlets, June 4, with Fox Sports Radio using “The Fan” brand. Hot AC WFGA-FM, Fort Wayne; Classic Rock WAOR-FM, South Bend; AC WLEG-FM, Elkhart; and Talk WNIL-AM, Niles, will all launch the new format with local morning and afternoon shows. We are a sports hungry region and now our customer and clients can consume and partner with our stations and Fox Sports Radio 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Cumulus will keep Salt Lake City’s “1320 The Fan” KFAN-AM going as a Sports Talk station despite the end of an LMA that provided the format from the Larry H. Miller Group. KFAN-AM will switch to Yahoo Sports Radio, simulcasting in-market sister KJQS-AM. LHM is now taking over two stations that are being acquired – “1280 The Zone” and “Fox Sports Radio 97.5″ KZNS-AM-FM. Says KFAN-AM General Manager Todd Larsen, “Everyone wants to be a part of this station. I’ve been overwhelmed by the magnitude of interest in KFAN from on-air personalities to listeners and sports organizations from every level. I am excited to continue these two heritage, local and independent sports radio stations.”

Chris Arnold will join in-place Gavin Dawson on an expanded 7pm-midnight show, filling Spanier’s slot as well as Dawson’s current “G-Bag Nation” time slot. CBS Radio “News Radio 830″ WCCO-AM, Minneapolis, and the University of St. Thomas extend their partnership for the broadcasting of Tommie’s football through the 2013 season. WCCO’s Dave Lee will continue to provide play-by-play for the Tommies, and WCCO’s Eric Nelson will continue providing color commentary. WCCO-AM will air its first 2012 St. Thomas football broadcast September 1. Says CBS Radio Minneapolis SVP and Market Manager Mick Anselmo,
“We are pleased to extend our broadcast agreement with St. Thomas, and to continue the tradition of broadcasting an expansive and enhanced experience to college football fans here in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.” In 2011, WCCO-AM entered into an agreement to broadcast the University of St. Thomas games. The Tommies are the reigning Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season football champions since 2010.

USRN Offering ‘Final Lap Weekly’ NASCAR Show.
United Stations Radio Networks (USRN), in conjunction with the producer/host of its short-form auto racing feature “The Final Lap” with Kerry Murphey is expanding the brand and will introduce a new one-hour “The Final Lap Weekly” show available to stations starting with the weekend of June 2-3. “The Final Lap Weekly” is an all-purpose NASCAR racing talk show, and the weekly show content will include discussion of the biggest news of the week in racing, race recaps and previews along with interviews with drivers and other NASCAR personalities. There will be opportunities for listeners to engage with the program interactively through social media as well as via the show’s website. For the new weekly show, host Kerry Murphey will be joined by co-host Toby Christie.

After a week of contentious and hostile interviews and Twitter posts, Pete Rock is explaining his position regarding his conflict with rapper Lupe Fiasco over Lupe’s sampling of Rock’s 1992 song “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”

“It’s true that people have made T.R.O.Y. over. I can’t control what’s done with my work after it’s already out there but I can control who gets my blessings. Those who involve me and respect me in the process, get my blessings,” Pete Rock explained. “Those who work behind my back – but all the while putting up a front like I’m down with it – don’t.”

“I’m flattered that they wanted to remake my song and that they respect it for the classic that it is,” he continued. “I just think they should have talked to Atlantic Records to make sure things were done right. The biggest violation is from Atlantic Records but what can you expect? Labels are corporations and their whole point is to sell records. If they respect the artist in the process that would be nice, but they’re not required. For as political as Lupe as, I expected him to know that and to have hopefully made them more accountable. I’m surprised that he’s siding with the corporation on this.”

Los Angeles ‘K-Mozart’ to Air Weekly Operas.
“1260 K-Mozart” KMZT-AM (also on 105.1 FM HD2), Los Angeles, tells us the station will air weekly opera broadcasts from three U.S. opera companies, beginning Sunday (May 27). To start will be the Lyric Opera of Chicago production of Offenbach’s classic “The Tales of Hoffman” starring Matthew Polenzani in the title role and conducted by Emmanuel Villaume. The series will continue with the complete 2011-2012 Lyric Opera season followed by the recent productions of San Francisco Opera and the 2011-2012 Houston Grand Opera season, respectively. Presented as “matinees,” the Sunday morning broadcasts will air starting at 9am, with running times varying between three and four hours. A full program listing including air dates will be available at KMozart.com. Two years after its return, “K-Mozart” provides classical programming over a variety of listening platforms, including online at www.KMozart.com, and mobile with free K-Mozart smartphone apps, in addition to the two over the air signals.

Erica Farber Re-Elected to Arbitron Board.
New RAB President and CEO Erica Farber will serve another one-year term as a member of Arbitron’s Board of Directors. At Arbitron’s annual stockholders’ meeting this week, ten individuals were elected to the board. The others are Shellye Archambeau, David Devonshire, John Dimling, Ronald Garriques, Philip Guarascio, William Kerr, Larry Kittelberger, Luis Nogales, and Richard Post.
